Neverland Christmas Light Show
Culture Creative

Project Overview
The Neverland Christmas Light Show transformed the historic grounds of Kenwood House into a large-scale immersive lighting experience, combining scenic builds, architectural lighting, and complex temporary structures.
Acting as the project’s engineering partner, we provided ongoing support to the installation team—delivering rigging calculations, ballast design, and real-time guidance to ensure safe and efficient delivery across multiple installation zones.
Engineering approach
This was not a single installation, but a collection of diverse structures—each with its own structural behaviour, loading conditions, and installation constraints.
Our role was to provide clear, reliable engineering input across all elements, ensuring that rigging systems were correctly specified, ballast requirements were understood, and environmental loads were appropriately accounted for.
As part of the process we visited Culture Creative in Edinburgh and provided guidance on how the structures should be rigged to ensure the structural stability.
Once the structures had been installed, we conducted a site visit to ensure all of the structures were set up in line with the calculations.
Pirate Ship Structure

A large-scale pirate ship installation featuring masts constructed from Prolyte truss supporting additional steel frames and LED nets.
The tallest mast was 14m high and required a rigging study for the steel wire lines that were tensioned to ensure it could withstand an evacuation windspeed
LED London Skyline
A series of steel fabrications formed a stylised interpretation of the London skyline. Each structure was fully clad in LED lighting, creating a striking illuminated silhouette.
Engineering input focused on ballast calculations ensuring the structures remained secure without any visual impact to the LED light show.
Flight LED Tunnel
The illuminated tunnel formed a key walkthrough feature within the experience.
Given the winter installation period, structural checks included snow loading analysis in addition to standard dead and wind loads.
Delivery & Collaboration
“Iland Engineering helped us ensure this project was installed on time. Nick was always available to provide a sanity check when the structures were first being assembled and was happy to travel to Edinburgh to suggest changes that would improve the stability of the structures.
Organising event installations is hectic at the best of times, having an engineering team that understands this and can assist in a fast and practical manner is a dream come true - thanks Iland Engineering!”
Dan Quayle - Project Manager
By providing accessible, responsive engineering support, we enabled the team to resolve challenges quickly—whether that meant confirming a rigging configuration, adjusting ballast, or validating a change on site.
This approach ensured the project maintained momentum while upholding a high standard of safety and technical rigour.
Outcome
The Neverland Christmas Light Show delivered a visually rich, technically robust installation across the grounds of Kenwood House.
Our role ensured that each element—whether sculptural, scenic, or structural—was underpinned by clear, reliable engineering, allowing the creative vision to be realised safely and efficiently in a live environment.
